Work with us
Djaara’s talented artists are always looking for new creative outlets and mediums to display and produce their art. DUMAWUL can work closely with you to facilitate licensing of artwork, commissioning an artist and engaging with our community to deliver a professional outcome with an increased cultural significance.

Wayipunga Early Parenting Centre
Bendigo Health has opened the Wayipunga Early Parenting Centre, and DUMAWUL is honoured to be part of this milestone! In Dja Dja Wurrung, Wayipunga means “to help/support,” and we’re proud to contribute to a space dedicated to nurturing families.
As part of our partnership, we facilitated the supply of four pieces of artwork to be displayed in the centre. The pieces include Lifecycle and Creative & Colorful (Wildflower) by Jida Gulpilil and Barramul and Gathering of Goannas by Daikota Nelson.
These pieces reflect the strength and beauty of Dja Dja Wurrung Culture, and we’re excited to be part of this journey in supporting new families and fostering community wellbeing.
Malamiya Mang Art Festival
The Malamiya Mang Arts Festival celebrates the deep connection between Dja Dja Wurrung Country and People, from the past, to there here and now. “Malamiya” means “long ago” and “Mang” means “now” in Dja Dja Wurrung language, representing the festival’s ongoing story of culture. The festival featured a special exhibition on Djandak Wi (Cultural Burns), aligning with the “Keep the Fire Burning” theme from this year’s National NAIDOC Week. Running from Thursday 31 October to Saturday 2 November 2024, this three-day event showcased the best of Djaara art, design, fashion, music and Culture.

Completed projects & featured works
Maryborough DEECA Commission by Jason Jakiel
Jason explores themes centered on Djandak (Country) and its connection to Djaara in this region. It is set in Galk galk djaa (Box Ironbark forest). Djaara occupied the Galk galk djaa for many thousands of years. The forest provided critical food and shelter, in this dry and harsh country where water was often scarce, rock wells hollowed out by Djaara providing a reliable source of water.
DJAARA Enterprises
DUMAWUL is one of three enterprises of DJAARA (Dja Dja Wurrung Clans Aboriginal Corp). When driving around Djandak (Country) you will see the impact of DJANDAK (enterprise) with Bundjiyl soaring over the law courts or the powerful, cultural artworks in Galkangu (Bendigo GovHub). The Circle of Elder sculpture captures four Elders sitting with Nyernang, Wurrekang, Dhelkup Nyernila (listening, talking and good deep listening).
DUMAWUL can facilitate Djaara member engagement and bring cultural knowledge to the design, that results in a collaborative and remarkable outcome that has broad community recognition.
Songlines; Digital projection by Jasmine Howell-Saunders
“Our Songlines connect us like threads guiding us to walk together. Keeping the fire burning and putting fire into the land to awaken the spirits of our ancestors.”
In celebration with the Malamiya Mang Art Festival, Jasmine was commissioned to produce an artwork for projection onto one of Bendigo’s historic buildings.
Bendigo Health commission by Uncle Dennis Baksh
Uncle Dennis’ artwork reflects various aspects of aboriginal culture, often depicting animals and the environment he grew up in.
As part of their Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) Bendigo Health has committed to working with Djaara artists to commission work for display throughout the hospital.
