Jason Jakiel is a multifaceted artist who began exploring his artistic talents in early childhood. Influenced by his Indigenous heritage and upbringing in Ballarat, his work encompasses paint-ing, sculpture, photography, and writing.
He started his artistic journey as a Cultural Heritage Officer at a local Ballarat Aboriginal Co-op and later studied Koori Art and Design at RMIT in Bundoora. As a Koori Educator, Jason furthered his passion for art by creating murals and paintings with students.
Exploring themes of connection to land, personal reflection, and alternative life paths, Jason incorporates his parents’ stories and locations like Hanging Rock into his work. Drawing inspiration from Indigenous artists, he uses earth tones and hands-on techniques to create artworks that foster personal connections and engage viewers on multiple levels. Through his art, Jason aims to preserve and promote his culture, language, and traditions, ensuring a lasting impact.
