Suzanne Taylor
Dja Dja Wurrung/Yorta Yorta
Suzanne Taylor is a proud Dja Dja Wurrung and Yorta Yorta woman. Suzanne first started learning the art of weaving at Tafe with Aunty Eva Ponting in 2019. Suzanne found great pleasure in weaving and began feeling more connected to her culture and family.
Suzanne, her sisters, and Mum all enjoy weaving and often come together to work alongside one another. Suzanne and her family not only weave, but also dye their own raffia to make their one-of-a-kind artworks.
Along side weaving, Suzanne also makes jewellery from quandong seeds, gum nuts and emu feathers. These mediums are particularly special to Suzanne as they are all natural and from the land.
Like many artists, Suzanne has struggled with putting herself and her artworks out for people to see, but with her resilience, friends, and family she is slowly over coming these barriers and is proud to be showcased in several exhibitions now.
