Kerri Douglas
Dja Dja Wurrung/Bangerang
A proud Dja Dja Wurrung and Bangerang woman, Kerri Douglas follows a long line of staunch Aboriginal women in her educational practices and art practice: Koori Art Designs.
Kerri’s art serves as a conduit for educating others about Aboriginal Culture, embodying the profound bond between humans and the earth, and regularly uses her art practice as a source to start conversations.
“My dream is to assist other fledgling artists like me and give us all a
culturally safe space to have our art”
Kerri has been a recognised artist since 2015 and started her storytelling practice through acrylic paintings. Shortly after she started using a natural ochre in her paintings. Since then, her art practices have evolved to include weaving.
Kerri has been taught the weaving practice by master weaver Aunty Marilyne Nicholls. Kerri has developed her own unique style whilst still paying respect and honouring the traditional craft techniques, expertise and knowledge handed down by generations of Ancestors and Elders.
Kerri’s work has been showcased in various exhibitions in Castlemaine and Bendigo and is available through local stockists and at the Castlemaine Artists Market.
