BurWhela’s inspiration behind ‘Balak Wartaka’ – Gurri ‘kangaroo’ feast is her deep connection to the Dja Dja Wurrung Peoples animal management- Gurri feast. The two smaller circular sit downs represent her people in travel to the feast, similarly the larger circular sit down represents the descendants of her ‘Apical’ ancestors, her family coming together in purpose, in celebratory, in sharing their feast. It is at this time the feast consists of culling of excess Gurri in order to support their native plants opportunity to grow in this territory.
